India launches anti-dumping probe into nylon 6 imports from China and Russia

India has launched an anti-dumping investigation into Nylon 6 imports from China and Russia to protect domestic manufacturers from unfair pricing practices.

India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of nylon chips and granules used in the textile industry from China and Russia, following a complaint from a domestic manufacturer.

According to a notification issued by the DGTR, the investigation covers imports of Nylon 6 chips and granules with a relative viscosity below 3. The complaint, filed by Gujarat Polyfilms, alleges that dumped imports from the two countries are causing material injury to the domestic industry. The applicant has sought the imposition of anti-dumping duties on such imports to address the alleged impact.

The DGTR said it had found prima facie evidence indicating that the products in question were being dumped into the Indian market from China and Russia, warranting the initiation of a formal investigation. It said the probe would examine whether the imports had caused injury to domestic producers and whether there was a causal link between the alleged dumping and any harm suffered.

If the investigation establishes that dumped imports have resulted in material injury to the domestic industry, the DGTR will recommend the imposition of anti-dumping duties. The final decision on whether to impose such duties rests with the Ministry of Finance.

Anti-dumping investigations are conducted to determine whether an increase in low-priced imports has adversely affected domestic industries. As a remedial measure, countries may impose anti-dumping duties in accordance with the rules of the World Trade Organization to ensure fair trade practices and maintain a level playing field for domestic producers.

India has previously imposed anti-dumping duties on a range of products to counter the impact of cheap imports from various countries, including China.
