Madhya Pradesh focuses on textile industry to boost employment and industrial growth, says CM Dr. Yadav, highlighting investment and sector development initiatives.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India’s textile industry is advancing toward growth while preserving its rich heritage. Significant work is being undertaken on handloom and handicrafts in Madhya Pradesh and several other states. The Madhya Pradesh government has accorded the highest priority to the textile industry as a key driver of employment-oriented industrial development. The state has received notable support from the Central Government in terms of industry and investment.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that, in terms of culture, values, resources, and heritage, Madhya Pradesh is among the leading states in the country in textiles and several other industries. The state government is introducing various innovations to boost industrial activity and investment. Through regional industry conclaves held at the divisional and district levels, industrial development–related activities have expanded in Ujjain, Rewa, Katni, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and several other districts. He said that since the time of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai, Madhya Pradesh has had a tradition of promoting silk products such as Maheshwari and Chanderi saris.
Efforts are being made to increase the production of high-quality mulberry silk in Narmadapuram and organic cotton in the state. Large numbers of women are being connected with textile mills, looms, handlooms and spindles in Madhya Pradesh, making them self-reliant. The state is making rapid progress in organic cotton, man-made fiber and technical textile sectors. Special emphasis is being laid on expanding the textile sector in tribal-dominated areas such as Khargone and Budhni.
Over the past one-and-a-half decades, the state government has facilitated investments exceeding ₹25,000 crore across the textile sector value chain. This is expected to generate employment for lakhs of people in the coming years. With renewed resolve, Madhya Pradesh is poised to take a significant leap in development in 2026.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that the Madhya Pradesh government is prepared to partner with the Government of India in organizing the National Textile Conference scheduled for July 2026. He also noted that Ujjain has historically been a center of the textile industry and requested the Union Textiles Minister to hold the next conference in the holy city of Ujjain, the city of Baba Mahakal.
Initiatives in Textile Sector in Madhya Pradesh Commendable: Union Textiles Minister Shri Singh
Union Textiles Minister Shri Giriraj Singh praised the initiatives undertaken by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav in the textile sector in Madhya Pradesh. The rapid progress in the construction of the country’s first PM MITRA Park in Dhar was applauded by participants at the national conference, who greeted the Chief Minister with thunderous applause. Union Textiles Minister Shri Singh stated that the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav had added great value to the National Conference of Textile Ministers.
Union Textiles Minister Shri Singh said the Ministry of Textiles intends to work on two types of fibers in Madhya Pradesh, linen derived from flax, and milk-built (Madar) fiber. The Central Government is promoting new-age fibers. He urged states to prepare textile roadmaps and conduct activities accordingly, and stressed that technical fibers should be given the same importance as machine-made fibers.
Union Textiles Minister Shri Singh said that after agriculture, textiles are the largest employment-generating sector in the country. Based on the policies of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India’s textile exports have recorded 9 per cent growth. To build a strong ecosystem, Prime Minister Shri Modi has gifted the country with PM MITRA Parks. The pace of establishing PM MITRA Parks has accelerated in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
These parks are expected to attract investments exceeding ₹1 lakh crore, generating employment for lakhs of people. In the garment sector, an average investment of ₹1 crore creates employment opportunities for 40 to 60 persons. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, there has been a significant increase in the installation of industrial stitching machines across the country, and the textile sector now provides employment to more than 3 crore people nationwide.
The conference was also addressed by Union Minister of State for Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, and Additional Secretary Shri Rohit Kansal. Textile and industry ministers and senior officials from various states participated in the National Conference of Textile Ministers.
Union Textiles Minister Shri Giriraj Singh and Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated and reviewed an exhibition showcasing the strength, innovation and rich heritage of India’s textile industry at the two-day conference organized on the theme ‘India’s Textile Industry – The Fabric of Growth, Heritage and Innovation’. The India Textile Atlas State Compendium–2025 was also released at the conference. The event commenced with the collective singing of the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana.
The primary objective of the national conference is to accelerate the overall development and expansion of India’s textile industry. Deliberations will cover traditional handlooms and handicrafts, modern textiles, ready-made garments, technical textiles and export potential. Discussions will also focus on promoting investment, employment generation, innovation, skill development, demand-driven textile production and collaborative models among states.
The conference provides an opportunity to present Madhya Pradesh’s textile policy, industry-friendly environment, investment opportunities and available resources on a national platform. It will also facilitate the exchange of experiences among states and pave the way for new partnerships in the textile sector. The conference is a significant step toward strengthening national initiatives such as ‘Make in India – Make for India’ and ‘Vocal for Local’, helping make India’s textile industry more globally competitive.
