Spain’s Textil A. Ortiz, Europe’s leading supplier of premium quality lining fabrics, has further expanded its finishing capabilities with the successful commissioning of a fourth Monforts Montex stenter at its Santa Perpètua de Mogoda plant, near Barcelona.
The move is part of the company’s long-term strategy of continuous expansion, resource efficiency and environmental excellence. Founded in 1954 and celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2024, Textil A. Ortiz operates three production sites, two in Catalonia and one in Valencia and has partnered with Monforts and local representative Aguilar & Pineda since the 1970s.
The new nine-chamber Montex 8500-9F (200 cm nominal width) is equipped with direct gas heating, a Hercules needle chain, a Matex finishing padder, two heat exchangers and the Monformatic Professional control system, which ensures reproducible quality while cutting energy use. Combined with heat recovery, the stenter is already delivering substantial cost savings.
“Our customers demand fast service, superior quality and competitive prices,” says plant manager Xavier Mundet. “To stay competitive, we must continually innovate, and Monforts has always been a trusted partner.” Textil A. Ortiz stocks over 1,000 lining colours, along with special finishes such as softeners, water repellents, and flame retardants, backed by an extensive library of designs and prints.
Environmental excellence is central to the company’s operations. A zero-discharge water treatment plant based on evaporation and condensation, makes Ortiz the first dyeing and finishing company in Spain not to discharge water into public sewers. Recent investments also include new circular knitting machines and fabrics made with recycled polyester, while 15,000 sq. metres of solar panels and two wind turbines now supply the Santa Perpètua facility with 100% renewable energy.
“Our customer is delighted with the energy savings achieved on the new stenter compared to older models,” notes Aguilar & Pineda sales manager Oriol Canet, adding that the latest Montex lines can cut energy consumption by up to 40% compared to conventional stenters. “Local service and sustainability are more valued than ever,” concludes manager Abel Ortiz. “With trusted partners like Monforts, we can continue strengthening our environmental leadership while delivering premium quality.”
