Tamil Nadu Tops India’s Textile Exports Once Again in FY25

Tamil Nadu has once again emerged as India’s leading textile exporter for the financial year 2024–25, reaffirming its dominance in the country’s textile and apparel sector.

The state, known for its strong manufacturing base and skilled workforce, contributed the highest share to the nation’s total textile exports, outperforming other traditional hubs across India. Driven by strong global demand and consistent investments in sustainability and innovation, Tamil Nadu’s textile industry has seen remarkable growth over the past year.

The knitwear cluster of Tirupur played a pivotal role, recording higher export volumes across major markets like the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. In addition to knitwear, home textiles from Karur and woven fabrics from Erode and Salem significantly boosted the state’s overall export figures.

Industry experts believe Tamil Nadu’s success is not a mere coincidence but the result of years of focused efforts. Many textile manufacturers in the state have embraced eco-friendly practices, including renewable energy usage, organic raw materials, and zero liquid discharge systems. These initiatives have made Tamil Nadu a preferred sourcing destination for several global brands that prioritize sustainability.

Adding to this momentum, government support through export incentives, infrastructure upgrades, and policy initiatives has made it easier for exporters to compete internationally. Strategic diversification of export markets, beyond the traditional US and EU corridors, also helped Tamil Nadu cushion the impact of global economic fluctuations.

Speaking on this achievement, industry leaders expressed optimism that Tamil Nadu will continue its leadership in the coming years. They pointed out that investments in technical textiles, man-made fiber segments, and digital technologies are opening new avenues for growth.

With a solid foundation, a future-focused industry, and a strong commitment to sustainability, Tamil Nadu’s textile sector is poised to strengthen its global footprint even further, marking yet another proud chapter in the state’s industrial journey.
