Mariplast sets up manufacturing in India: A strategic leap into a high-growth market

Mariplast
Mariplast, the globally renowned manufacturer of specialised yarn carriers, has taken a significant step by establishing its first manufacturing facility in India. After many years of serving the Indian market through imports, the company has now begun local production, reaffirming its long-term commitment to one of the world’s fastest-growing textile hubs.

In an interview with The Textile Magazine, Mr. Mauro Romagnoli, Managing Director of Mariplast, shared insights on the company’s journey, its decision to invest in India and the technological strengths it brings to the industry.

A Legacy Rooted in Italian Engineering Excellence

Mariplast was founded in Italy by Mr. Romagnoli’s father. From its inception, the company dedicated itself entirely to yarn carriers, covering everything from preparation to dyeing. Over the decades, Mariplast has remained focused on improving customer processes and solving plant-level challenges. This approach has resulted in several patents and a steady pipeline of innovations aimed at enhancing quality, reducing wastage and simplifying operations.

A defining aspect of Mariplast’s philosophy is its preference for customised solutions rather than standardised products. The company now offers more than a thousand variations of yarn carriers, each tailored to the specific requirements of customers operating across traditional cotton segments as well as the manmade fibre industry. This depth of expertise has established Mariplast as a global leader in its niche.

A Global Footprint Built Over Decades

Before entering India, Mariplast had already established manufacturing operations in the United States, Turkey, Egypt, Spain and El Salvador. India now becomes the company’s sixth international production base. Each new unit has strengthened Mariplast’s ability to serve customers locally while maintaining the
quality and reliability associated with Italian engineering.

Entering India with Local Manufacturing

Mariplast has been active in India for several years and has supplied reusable yarn carriers to many leading textile companies. However, a key segment, especially the single-use dyeing tubes, remained underserved. To meet the demand of this segment effectively, the company recognised the need to
manufacture locally.

According to Mr. Romagnoli, the company’s long-term goal was always to begin local production in India. This plan materialised recently when Mariplast’s Indian factory began operations in September this year. The unit is currently in the startup phase, during which the company is testing products with customers and gathering feedback to fine-tune output quality.

What Sets Mariplast Apart in the Indian Market

Despite the presence of strong domestic competition in both organised and unorganised segments, Mariplast is confident about its position in India. This confidence comes from its deep understanding of customer needs, consistent quality standards and long history of innovation. The company works closely with mills to develop tailored solutions that improve process stability and productivity. Even though Mariplast’s products fall on the premium end of the price spectrum, customers value the durability, shape stability and process reliability they offer.

Some of the company’s recent innovations have further strengthened its capabilities. The Bravo tube increases package density and enhances plant efficiency, especially in filament spinning. The FlexBravo tube, which is currently one of Mariplast’s strongest offerings, is a shrinkable carrier designed to overcome the density variations that often affect dyeing quality from inside to outside. These innovations help mills improve production efficiency while reducing wastage and ensuring consistent fabric quality.

Mariplast already supplies to some of India’s largest textile groups, reinforcing the trust it has built over the years. With the new plant, the company is now in a position to serve them even better while also expanding its presence in both the cotton and man-made fibre segments.

India: A Growing Market Shaping Mariplast’s Future

With Europe’s textile sector shrinking and the eastern markets gaining momentum, India has emerged as a major growth hub for Mariplast. The country offers more than just export opportunities. Its large domestic textile market provides a solid and stable base for expansion. According to Mr. Romagnoli, Indian customers have always shown strong appreciation for Mariplast’s products and have provided valuable support in the company’s decision to invest locally.

The initial focus of the Goa plant will be on serving the Indian market. Once the operations stabilise, the company will explore exports to nearby regions. The decision to manufacture in India reflects Mariplast’s confidence in the country’s long-term potential, its strong customer relationships and the clear demand for highquality, process-optimised yarn carriers.

Mariplast’s entry into India with a dedicated manufacturing facility marks an important chapter in its global expansion. Guided by Italian engineering expertise, a strong culture of innovation and a deep commitment to solving customer challenges, the company is well positioned to support India’s rapidly growing textile sector. As the Indian textile industry continues to scale new heights, Mariplast’s presence in Goa is expected to play a meaningful role in enhancing productivity, reducing wastage and delivering
consistent results for mills across the country.
