TexMart : Supriya Spinning Mills has a long-standing legacy in the cotton trade. How did this experience shape the company’s journey into spinning?

Sravanti Badam Kancharla : Our story began with a deep-rooted connection to cotton, as ginners and traders who understood the value of quality at its source. Our Founder and Chairman, Sri Kancharla Anjaneyulu, has been in this field for the past 40 years. For years, we built our name and reputation in the cotton trade through integrity, consistency and trust. The relationships we developed with farmers, buyers and suppliers were grounded in transparency and respect, earning Supriya Group a place of credibility within the textile ecosystem. With that foundation, our evolution into spinning was a natural and strategic progression. Having mastered the nuances of cotton quality and market dynamics, we saw an opportunity to integrate forward, transforming from raw material suppliers to value creators in yarn manufacturing. Our strong goodwill in ginning and trading gave us a head start, providing the credibility and our confidence needed to enter spinning and quickly establish our footprint in both domestic and export markets.

TM: How has the leadership of the Kancharla family shaped the company’s journey and values?

SBK : The deep understanding of cotton and his commitment to quality earned Supriya Group its enduring reputation for reliability and excellence. Carrying this legacy forward, Sri Kancharla Amar, a second-generation entrepreneur, has played a pivotal role in transforming the group into a modern, process-driven textile enterprise. With an MBA from Leeds Beckett University (UK) and over 13+ years of experience in operations and production, he has been instrumental in driving modernization, efficiency and technological adoption across the company’s spinning units.

TM: Could you list the main types of yarn produced by SSMPL and their key applications in the textile industry?

SBK : At Type of Yarns Produced by SSMPL :

Carded Compact Yarn:

  • Count Range: 16 KCH to 40 KCH and 20 KCW to 61 KCW
  • Applications: Used in denim, towels, knitwear and low-cost woven fabrics where softness and absorbency are important.

Combed Compact Yarn:

  • Count Range: 20 CCH to 60 CCH and 20 CCW to 80 CCW
  • Applications: Used in fine shirting, hosiery, bed linens and premium woven or knitted fabrics. : Ideal for high-quality woven and knitted garments, including dress materials, T-shirts and fine fabrics.

TM: How does the company maintain consistent quality across various counts from Ne 20/1 to Ne 80/1?

SBK :

1. SSMPL maintains consistent quality across its various count ranges by implementing a standardized Quality Management System (QMS) that ensures uniform procedures and standards throughout all operations.

2. Clear count specifications, tolerances and process guidelines are established to ensure every product meets defined quality benchmarks.

3. Raw materials are carefully selected and approved through stringent supplier quality checks.

4. While process control techniques such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma are employed to minimize variation during production.

5. Regular inspections and internal audits verify compliance and continuous employee training promotes consistent performance across departments.

6. Customer feedback and quality data from different product lines are systematically analysed to identify trends and drive continual improvement.

7. By fostering a strong quality culture backed by committed leadership, the company ensures that every product, regardless of its type or range, consistently meets customer expectations and regulatory standards.

SBK : SSMPL ensure our yarn meets both weaving and knitting requirements in the global market by carefully selecting suitable raw materials and maintaining strict control over process parameters and quality standards. For weaving, yarns are produced with higher strength, lower hairiness and better abrasion resistance, while for knitting, they are made softer, more flexible and uniform for smooth loop formation. Advanced technologies such as compact spinning, autolevelling, and electronic yarn clearers help achieve consistent quality. Regular testing and adherence to international standards ensure that the yarn meets customer expectations and global market demands.

In the coming years, we intend to enhance production capabilities, invest in new technologies and expand our presence in value-added segments. A major component of our forward plan is our continued investment in renewable energy. Building upon the success of our existing 1 MW rooftop solar installation, we are planning to add an additional 4 MW solar capacity. This expansion will enable us to become largely energy self-reliant, significantly lower our operational costs and further reduce our environmental footprint.

SBK : We are also exploring collaborations and research initiatives to develop sustainable yarn alternatives that align with global textile trends. Our expansion plans are rooted in maintaining our reputation for quality while continuously evolving to meet the demands of an ever-changing market. SBK : A key milestone in our sustainability journey has been the installation of a 1 MW rooftop solarpower system, which enables us to meet a significant portion of our energy requirements through renewable sources. This initiative not only reduces our carbon footprint but also provides a long-term cost advantage, enhancing operational resilience and competitiveness. In addition, we continue to optimize our production processes to minimize waste, reuse resources wherever possible and promote a culture of environmental awareness among our employees.
