TN Textile Sector Gets Boost With 55 MoUs Worth ₹913 Cr
Tamil Nadu’s textile sector receives a major boost with 55 MoUs worth ₹913 crore, strengthening investment, capacity, and job creation.

In a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s textile industry, 55 textile companies have signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) committing fresh investments of ₹912.97 crore, which are expected to generate around 13,080 new jobs.

The MoUs were exchanged in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin during the International Textile Summit-360 held in Coimbatore. Addressing the gathering, Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted Tamil Nadu’s strong and consistent contribution to India’s textile sector.

He said the state accounts for 33% of India’s textile business, 46% of the country’s yarn production capacity and 70% of cotton fabric printing capacity. He added that the textile sector provides livelihoods to nearly three million people in Tamil Nadu, representing about 25% of India’s total textile employment. Notably, 42% of all women employed in factories across the country work in Tamil Nadu.

Stating that the Dravidian model government has implemented several reforms and support measures, the Deputy Chief Minister said Tamil Nadu is not only competing in the global textile market but also setting benchmarks for others to follow.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the industry, he announced that amendments are being made to the 6% interest subvention scheme to extend benefits to both pre-spinning and post-spinning machinery used in spinning mills. He also said the revised scheme would allow textile units to apply for benefits up to three times.

Highlighting the strength of the state’s textile ecosystem, Udhayanidhi Stalin said major clusters such as Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Karur, Salem and Chennai have evolved into globally recognized textile hubs. He added that Madurai, Dindigul and Virudhunagar are emerging as key growth corridors for spinning, weaving, processing, garmenting and value addition, setting new standards in quality and innovation.

Referring to the launch of the Integrated Textile Policy 2026, the Deputy Chief Minister said it reflects the government’s focus on competitiveness, ease of doing business, sustainability and investment promotion. He noted that the textile sector will continue to be a key pillar in achieving Tamil Nadu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy.

He further said that by moving up the value chain, adopting advanced technologies and expanding global reach, the state’s textile industry is well positioned to drive future growth. From artificial intelligence-driven business models and smart automation to robotics and next-generation machinery, Tamil Nadu’s textile sector is transforming with confidence and global standards.

The two-day International Textile Summit-360 brought together investors, policymakers, innovators and technology providers to promote strategic collaborations, technology partnerships and investment opportunities across the textile and handloom ecosystem.
