CANAINTEX Launches ESG Consulting Service to Advance Sustainability in Mexico’s Textile Industry
Mexico’s textile industry is strengthening its commitment to sustainability as the National Chamber of the Textile Industry of Mexico (CANAINTEX) introduces a new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) consulting service for member companies. The initiative is designed to help textile manufacturers enhance competitiveness, comply with evolving regulatory requirements, and meet growing expectations for transparency across global supply chains.
Available from June 5, the consulting service will provide specialized guidance on integrating ESG principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into business operations. Led by CANAINTEX’s Sustainability and SDGs Coordinator, the program aims to support companies in improving environmental performance while unlocking new business and financing opportunities.
The service focuses on four key areas: ESG-based gap assessments, integration of SDG targets through measurable performance indicators, regulatory compliance support for national and international environmental standards, and technical training programs that help optimize processes, reduce environmental impact, and improve operational efficiency.
The launch comes at a time when global brands, investors, and consumers are increasingly demanding greater transparency and sustainability throughout supply chains. CANAINTEX highlighted that companies failing to align with these expectations may face challenges in maintaining access to international markets.
According to the Chamber, adopting ESG practices can deliver several strategic benefits, including improved profitability through resource efficiency, greater access to sustainable financing and green investment funds, stronger regulatory compliance, enhanced brand reputation, and increased competitiveness in global markets.
CANAINTEX also emphasized three critical priorities for the future of Mexico’s textile sector. These include adopting circular economy principles to minimize waste and maximize material reuse, improving traceability to provide visibility into raw material sourcing and environmental impacts, and enhancing resource efficiency through reduced consumption of water, energy, and raw materials.
Industry leaders are already seeing sustainability drive innovation. Héctor Pérez, Executive at Textiles Lafayette, noted that manufacturers have significantly increased the use of recycled materials, particularly fibers produced from PET bottles, while investing in technologies that reduce water and chemical consumption. He emphasized that sustainability has become a major catalyst for innovation across the textile sector over the past five years.
As Mexico prepares for opportunities linked to the upcoming USMCA review and increased economic activity surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the new ESG consulting service is expected to help textile companies strengthen their position in an increasingly sustainability-focused global marketplace.
