Air Marshal Tejinder Singh Highlights Textile Sector’s Strategic Role in India’s Growth
Air Marshal Tejinder Singh highlights the strategic importance of India’s textile sector in driving economic growth and national development.

Air Marshal Tejinder Singh has emphasized the crucial role of India’s textile sector in strengthening the nation’s economy and employment landscape, stating that the integration of textiles with technology will be a key driver of future growth.

The Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force was speaking at the 40th Foundation Day celebrations of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar.

Addressing the gathering, Air Marshal Singh noted that the textile sector supports livelihoods across the country and plays an essential role in national development. He highlighted that advancements in textile technology would not only enhance economic performance but also contribute to India’s long-term strategic objectives.

Drawing from his professional experience, he pointed to the Indian Air Force’s efforts towards indigenisation as a significant milestone. He explained that, following government initiatives, all flying clothing and specialised protective gear, including fire-retardant overalls, are now being manufactured within India, reinforcing self-reliance in defence textiles.

Speaking on the occasion, NIFT Gandhinagar Director Dr Sameer Sood said the institute’s alumni have gone on to hold leadership positions across diverse industries. He added that the current phase is pivotal for the country, with the fashion and textile sectors increasingly shaping India’s global image.
