Turkmenistan Approves Modernization of Baherden Garment Factory
Turkmenistan has approved plans to modernize the Baherden Garment Factory as part of the country’s broader efforts to upgrade its textile manufacturing infrastructure and strengthen the competitiveness of its domestic textile industry.
The proposal was approved by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting, following a report by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Nokerkuly Atagulyyev on measures to modernize enterprises operating under the Ministry of Textile Industry.
Following the report, the president instructed Atagulyyev to undertake the necessary work to advance the modernization of the Baherden garment factory. The project is expected to support the upgrading of production capabilities and contribute to the development of the country’s garment manufacturing sector.
Turkmenistan has been investing in the modernization of its textile industry through the introduction of advanced technologies, equipment and upgraded production facilities. The government’s efforts are aimed at increasing production volumes, expanding product ranges and improving the competitiveness of locally manufactured textile products in domestic and international markets.
Textile enterprises across Turkmenistan have introduced equipment supplied by manufacturers from countries including Belgium, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Japan, supporting the sector’s transition towards more modern production systems.
The Baherden Garment Factory has previously been identified as a facility for modernization and expansion. In 2022, the Turkmen government announced plans to transform the factory into an open joint-stock company involving the Ministry of Textile Industry and a private company. The plans included modernizing the facility and expanding its range of garment products.
The latest approval reinforces Turkmenistan’s continued focus on upgrading its textile and garment manufacturing infrastructure while creating greater opportunities for local production and value-added textile development.
