Hong Kong-based apparel major Epic Group is planning to invest nearly $150 million in Odisha to establish a new technical textiles and synthetic fabric manufacturing ecosystem aimed at global export markets.
The proposed project will focus on high-performance fabrics used in activewear, athleisure, sportswear and functional apparel, strengthening Odisha’s position as an emerging textile manufacturing hub in India.
The investment follows the inauguration of Epic Group’s first Indian apparel manufacturing facility, Trimetro Garments, in Khurda district, Odisha. The company had already invested around $100 million in the 40-acre unit, which is expected to manufacture nearly 20 million garments annually for exports and generate around 10,000 jobs in phases.
According to Epic Group Chairman Ranjan Mahtani, the upcoming investment is currently in the blueprint stage, with land acquisition and approvals underway in Khurda district. The company expects to make a formal announcement within the next six months.
Unlike traditional textile projects centred on cotton fabrics, the new facility will manufacture advanced synthetic and engineered textiles including polyester, nylon, elastane blends and recycled performance fibres. The move aligns with growing global demand for durable, lightweight and moisture-managing fabrics used by international fashion and sportswear brands.
Epic Group said the expansion will help strengthen its vertically integrated supply chain by reducing fabric import dependence, improving quality control and shortening delivery timelines for export customers. The company currently supplies apparel to global brands including Walmart, Amazon, Uniqlo and Tesco.
