Fendi Launches Luxury Denim Collection Made with Sustainable Banana Fibre
Fendi Unveils Luxury Denim Collection Featuring Sustainable Banana Fibre

Luxury fashion house Fendi has introduced a new denim collection that showcases the potential of banana fibre as a high-performance, sustainable material for premium fashion. The collection incorporates innovative fabrics developed by Italian textile manufacturer Berto Industria Tessile using Bananatex, a durable, biodegradable and plastic-free textile produced from regeneratively grown abacá banana plants.

Recognized as the world’s strongest natural plant fibre, abacá is cultivated in biodiverse agroforestry systems in the Philippines, Costa Rica and Ecuador. Its exceptional strength and renewable nature have made it an increasingly attractive material for sustainable textile applications.

The denim fabric used in Fendi’s latest collection is composed of 55% organic cotton and 45% abacá fibre, sourced from Berto Industria Tessile’s Musa Collection. The collection offers fabrics containing between 36% and 45% Bananatex, available in multiple weights, constructions and textures to support a wide range of luxury apparel and textile applications.

According to Fendi, the new material combines the natural durability of abacá fibres with traditional indigo dyeing techniques, while integrating regenerative agriculture, responsible dyeing processes and advanced weaving and finishing technologies. The result is a premium denim fabric that balances craftsmanship, performance and environmental responsibility.

The launch reflects the growing adoption of innovative natural fibres in luxury fashion, as brands continue exploring renewable materials that reduce environmental impact while maintaining premium quality and design standards.
