Yogi Adityanath Highlights Uttar Pradesh’s Textile Heritage at Textile Conclave
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the state’s rich textile heritage, skilled workforce and industrial potential at the UP Textile Conclave-2026 in Lucknow on September 8.
Speaking at the two-day conclave at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh has several key advantages for expanding its textile and apparel industry, including skilled manpower, a large domestic market, established industrial clusters, entrepreneurship and a young workforce.
Yogi Adityanath also highlighted the historical global demand for Indian textiles, particularly products originating from Uttar Pradesh. He pointed to the state’s well-known textile clusters, including Varanasi’s silk sarees, Bhadohi’s carpets and Lucknow’s chikankari, along with Kanpur’s textile, leather and industrial manufacturing ecosystem.
He further identified Meerut as a key location for developing technical textiles and sports goods, describing these regional clusters as an important part of Uttar Pradesh’s textile heritage and industrial capabilities.
According to the Chief Minister, the state has the resources and ecosystem required to strengthen its position in the textile sector. He emphasised the combination of human resources, industry, entrepreneurship and access to India’s largest consumer market as major advantages for future growth.
Yogi Adityanath also highlighted the state’s export performance, noting that exports of textiles, apparel and handicrafts have increased by approximately 56 percent over the past six years.
The conclave brought together stakeholders from the textile and apparel industry to discuss opportunities for investment, manufacturing, exports and sectoral development in Uttar Pradesh.
On the sidelines of the event, the Chief Minister also met with leading textile and apparel entrepreneurs, reinforcing the state government’s focus on strengthening industry engagement and supporting further growth in the sector.
