Temafa to Supply Advanced Hemp Straw Processing Plant to Hanffaser Geiseltal eG
Temafa Maschinenfabrik GmbH, a leading German manufacturer of machinery and complete plant systems for fibre processing, has secured a significant order from Hanffaser Geiseltal eG, based in Mücheln, for the supply of a state-of-the-art hemp straw processing plant. The project represents an important milestone for both companies as demand for sustainable and natural fibre solutions continues to grow across Europe.
The upcoming facility will be Hanffaser Geiseltal eG’s first industrial-scale plant dedicated to processing hemp straw into high-quality hemp fibres. According to the companies, the plant is scheduled to be delivered, installed, and fully commissioned later this year, enabling commercial-scale production to begin soon after completion.
Temafa’s specially engineered system has been designed to ensure efficient and reliable processing of hemp straw while maintaining high fibre quality standards. The produced hemp fibres will primarily cater to the building materials sector, where sustainable alternatives are increasingly gaining traction. Applications include eco-friendly insulation materials, lightweight construction components, and other environmentally responsible products that support the transition toward greener industrial practices.
Industry experts view hemp as one of the most promising renewable raw materials due to its low environmental impact, fast growth cycle, and versatility across multiple industries. In recent years, hemp fibres have witnessed increasing demand from sectors such as construction, automotive, textiles, and biocomposites, driven by the global shift toward sustainable manufacturing and circular economy solutions.
“We are delighted to support Hanffaser Geiseltal eG as it enters the field of industrial hemp fibre processing,” said Dr Jörg Morgner, Managing Director of Temafa Maschinenfabrik GmbH. “This project demonstrates the growing significance of natural fibres as sustainable raw materials and highlights our expertise in developing customised processing solutions tailored to customer requirements.”
The investment also reflects Hanffaser Geiseltal eG’s long-term commitment to sustainable agriculture and industrial innovation. By establishing industrial hemp processing capabilities, the company aims to strengthen regional value chains, create new market opportunities for hemp cultivation, and contribute to the expansion of Germany’s bio-based economy.
With the increasing industrialisation of hemp processing in Germany, projects such as this are expected to play a crucial role in supporting environmentally conscious manufacturing while reducing dependence on conventional synthetic materials. The collaboration between Temafa and Hanffaser Geiseltal eG further underlines the growing momentum behind sustainable fibre technologies and the future potential of hemp-based products in global markets.
