Novonesis Launches DeniBrite Platform for Sustainable Denim Bleaching

Enzymatic solution combines low-temperature and vintage bleaching technologies to reduce reliance on conventional chemicals

Novonesis has launched DeniBrite™, a new biobleaching platform for denim, bringing together enzymatic solutions designed to help textile manufacturers and laundries create a range of denim finishes while improving process and environmental performance.

The platform combines DeniBrite™ Cold T and DeniBrite™ Vintage, giving denim processors greater flexibility in achieving contemporary bright looks, vintage effects and grey-cast finishes. Cold T is designed for low-temperature bleaching, while Vintage targets more authentic aged appearances.

The launch comes as denim manufacturers face increasing pressure to reduce dependence on conventional bleaching chemistries while maintaining the contrasts, fades and finishes expected by fashion brands and consumers. Chemical management remains a significant sustainability challenge for denim finishing, with 27% of processes classified as having high chemical impact in the latest industry assessment cited by Novonesis.

DeniBrite is designed to provide an enzymatic alternative that can support improved chemical management and lower-impact textile processing. The platform also aims to help laundries address evolving requirements around worker safety, compliance and environmental performance.

Novonesis said a screening-level life-cycle assessment of DeniBrite Cold T indicated approximately 40% lower global warming potential and 28% lower water consumption compared with conventional sodium hypochlorite bleaching under the assessed conditions. The company notes that these figures are based on the specific modelled comparison and may vary depending on processing conditions.

The DeniBrite portfolio is supported by sustainability documentation, with the products available in formulations meeting ZDHC Level 3 requirements. Novonesis is also a bluesign System Partner, with DeniBrite products carrying bluepass certification.

The new platform reflects the textile industry’s broader shift towards enzyme-based processing technologies that can deliver desired fabric aesthetics while reducing the environmental footprint of finishing operations.

With DeniBrite, Novonesis aims to help denim manufacturers and laundries balance fashion requirements with increasing expectations for more responsible and transparent production processes.
