UAE Launches Initiative to Transform Textile Sector Through Circular Economy
New programme aims to strengthen textile recycling, sustainability and circular manufacturing across the UAE.

ABU DHABI, UAE – UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has launched a new national initiative aimed at transforming the country’s textile sector by promoting circular economy practices, sustainable production and textile waste recycling. The programme is designed to reduce environmental impact while creating new economic opportunities within the textile value chain.

The initiative seeks to establish an integrated ecosystem for collecting, sorting, recycling and reusing textile materials, supporting the UAE’s broader sustainability and resource-efficiency goals. It is expected to encourage collaboration among government entities, private companies and industry stakeholders to develop innovative solutions for textile waste management.

Officials said the programme will help divert large volumes of textile waste from landfills while promoting the use of recycled fibres and sustainable materials in manufacturing. The initiative is also expected to support the development of new recycling infrastructure and create opportunities for investment in circular textile technologies.

The move aligns with the UAE’s long-term environmental strategy and reflects growing global efforts to build more sustainable and circular textile industries. Industry experts believe such initiatives can play a key role in reducing waste, lowering carbon emissions and advancing responsible consumption across the fashion and textile sectors.
