Central Silk Board delegation visits Vietnam to enhance bilateral cooperation in silk production, trade, technology and textile collaboration.
The Central Silk Board (CSB), functioning under the Ministry of Textiles, along with prominent Indian silk entrepreneurs, undertook a five-day official visit to Vietnam with support from the Embassy of India in Hanoi. The primary objective of the visit was to deepen bilateral engagement in sericulture, silk, textiles, and technical textiles, in line with the Government of India’s efforts to expand global partnerships, strengthen value chains, and encourage sustainable growth within the textile sector.
As part of the visit, Dr. Naresh Babu N., Joint Secretary (Technology), Central Silk Board, honored the Chairman of Bitexco Nam Long Joint Stock Company — one of Vietnam’s major textile manufacturers and exporters — with the symbolic Five-in-One Silk Stole. He extended an invitation to the company to participate in Bharat Tex 2026.
The delegation also invited the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) to take part in Bharat Tex 2026. Discussions were held with the Vietnam Association of Craft Villages (VICRAFTS) regarding the promotion of handlooms and handicrafts, product innovation, village-level development strategies, export opportunities, and policy support. The association showed strong interest in collaborating with Indian stakeholders.
During their stay, the delegation met Shri Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa, Ambassador of India to Vietnam, at the Indian Embassy in Hanoi. The meeting focused on exploring new opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the silk and textile industries.
The team also visited the renowned Van Phuc Silk Craft Village in Hanoi, where they interacted with local artisans and weavers. The visit offered valuable insights into Vietnam’s integrated ecosystem that connects weaving, embroidery, design, fashion, and market access. The delegation noted that this model could serve as inspiration for developing a sericulture-based tourism framework in India.
In addition, the delegation toured advanced production facilities, including automated reeling units and mulberry cultivation farms. They participated in major trade events such as the Vietnam International Value Chain Exhibition 2026 (VIVC 2026) and the Vietnam Glorious Spring Fair 2026 (VGSF 2026) at the Vietnam Exhibition Center. The Central Silk Board’s pavilion, showcasing a variety of Indian silk products, received considerable attention, reflecting growing international interest in Indian silk.
The delegation also visited traditional silk retail outlets in Ho Chi Minh City to study a wide range of silk fabrics and heritage-inspired fashion products. Interactions with local artisans allowed them to understand innovative design methods and stitching techniques, highlighting potential avenues for product diversification and stronger collaboration between India and Vietnam in textiles and handicrafts.
Overall, the visit has paved the way for enhanced cooperation in research and development, technology exchange, business partnerships, and improved global market connectivity between the two nations in the silk and textile sectors.
