ILO launches climate-resilient textile initiative in Ethiopia

ILO launches climate-resilient textile initiative in Ethiopia
The International Labour Organization (ILO) has introduced a new climate-resilient textile initiative in Ethiopia, aimed at strengthening the sustainability and adaptability of the country’s growing textile and garment sector.

This initiative focuses on helping manufacturers cope with climate-related challenges such as water scarcity, rising temperatures, and supply chain disruptions. By promoting eco-friendly production practices, efficient resource management, and sustainable sourcing, the program seeks to reduce environmental impact while improving productivity.

The ILO is also working closely with local stakeholders, including factories, workers, and government bodies, to ensure the adoption of climate-smart technologies and better workplace standards. Training programs and capacity-building efforts will play a key role in equipping workers with the skills needed for a more sustainable future.

With Ethiopia emerging as a key hub for textile manufacturing in Africa, this initiative is expected to boost the sector’s resilience, enhance global competitiveness, and support long-term economic growth while aligning with international sustainability goals.
