India’s leading fashion retailers are ramping up their offline expansion strategies, investing heavily to strengthen their retail presence across the country, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where consumer demand continues to grow.

Trent Ltd., the Tata Group’s fashion and lifestyle retailer, has received shareholder approval to raise ₹2,500 crore to accelerate its growth plans. The investment will support the opening of new stores, modernization of existing outlets, expansion of the Star Bazaar network, and selective investments in retail real estate.

Arvind Fashions has also announced expansion plans for FY27, targeting the addition of 150,000 square feet of net retail space, exceeding the 140,000 square feet added during FY26.

Retailers are simultaneously strengthening their omni-channel strategies, integrating physical stores with digital platforms to provide seamless shopping experiences and faster order fulfillment.

Reliance Retail continues to invest in its retail infrastructure, increasing long-term borrowings to support expansion. The company currently operates more than 700 dark stores, dedicated to fulfilling online orders efficiently. According to CFO Dinesh Taluja, Reliance Retail will continue investing to deepen its market reach and drive long-term growth.

During FY26, Trent expanded its footprint by opening 198 Zudio stores, 52 Westside stores, and 6 Star Bazaar outlets. Meanwhile, V-Mart Retail recorded its strongest annual expansion, opening 92 new stores while closing 12, resulting in a net addition of 80 stores and taking its total store count to 577.

Industry experts expect India’s fashion retailers to sustain this expansion momentum as they strengthen their presence in existing markets while tapping new opportunities in smaller cities with rising purchasing power.
