India’s Textile Industry Set to Achieve $350 Bn Target by 2030: Giriraj Singh

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh has expressed confidence that India’s textile industry will achieve its ambitious target of USD 350 billion by 2030, highlighting the sector’s remarkable growth over the past decade.

Speaking to the media, Singh noted that the industry has expanded to nearly USD 190 billion in 2025-26, while the domestic textile market has grown from around Rs 6 lakh crore in 2014-15 to over Rs 16 lakh crore. He said the sector continues to play a vital role in the Indian economy through increased production, exports and employment generation.

According to the minister, the textile and apparel industry currently provides direct employment to more than 5.3 crore people and is expected to create nearly two crore additional jobs over the next three years. He attributed this growth to the government’s continued focus on strengthening the entire textile value chain.

Singh emphasised that the Prime Minister’s 5F vision—Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign—has helped transform the sector into an integrated ecosystem connecting farmers, manufacturers, weavers, artisans and exporters.

The minister also highlighted the rapid growth of India’s technical textiles segment, which has expanded from approximately USD 6 billion to USD 25 billion under the National Technical Textiles Mission. Investments in research, innovation, incubation and industry-academia collaboration are further supporting the development of a future-ready textile ecosystem, he added.

On infrastructure development, Singh pointed to the establishment of integrated textile parks and seven PM MITRA Parks across key states. These projects are expected to attract investments worth around Rs 70,000 crore and generate nearly 21 lakh employment opportunities.

He further noted that technology upgradation initiatives have strengthened the powerloom sector, while the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has expanded its academic presence and launched innovative programmes such as VisioNxt and IndiaSize to boost India’s fashion and design capabilities.

With continued investments, policy support and infrastructure expansion, India’s textile industry is well-positioned to strengthen its global competitiveness and achieve its long-term growth objectives, the minister concluded.
