Reliance Retail Strengthens Apparel Supply Chain with 21 Manufacturing Clusters
Reliance Retail is expanding its presence in the apparel manufacturing sector by developing a nationwide garment manufacturing ecosystem through supplier partnerships across 21 manufacturing clusters in India.
Announcing the initiative, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani stated that the company has established supplier partnerships in 21 clusters across the country, where garments for its retail business will be produced.
The move represents a significant step beyond Reliance Retail’s traditional retail-focused operations and highlights its growing commitment to strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Industry observers believe the initiative could create substantial opportunities for garment manufacturers, fabric suppliers, and sourcing partners operating within India’s key textile and apparel hubs. Given Reliance Retail’s extensive market reach, the programme is expected to generate increased demand for apparel production and supply chain services.
The initiative may also encourage greater investments in advanced manufacturing technologies, compliance systems, and sustainable production practices as suppliers adapt to the standards required by large organised retailers.
In addition, the development is expected to provide new growth opportunities for MSMEs and regional manufacturing clusters by integrating them into organised supply chains, improving business continuity and order visibility.
Reliance Retail’s manufacturing expansion aligns with its partnership with SHEIN, launched last year to sell India-made garments in global markets. As part of the collaboration, the number of Indian suppliers associated with the programme is projected to increase from 150 to 1,000 within a year, further strengthening India’s position as a global apparel sourcing destination.
