Egypt Accelerates Textile Industry Modernization as Deputy PM Reviews National Development Project

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Hussein Issa, has reviewed the progress of the country’s national textile and garment industry development project, reaffirming the sector’s critical role in driving economic growth and industrial competitiveness.

During a meeting held at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Issa stressed the importance of maintaining project schedules, speeding up implementation efforts, and ensuring the efficient operation of newly established production facilities to maximize returns on public investments.

The review focused on ongoing modernization initiatives within state-owned textile and spinning companies, including major projects at Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in Mahalla El Kubra and Misr Shebin El Kom Company. These investments form part of Egypt’s broader strategy to revitalize its textile sector through upgraded infrastructure, advanced manufacturing technologies, and enhanced production capabilities.

Issa also highlighted the need to expand access to international markets, strengthen corporate governance practices, and deepen collaboration with private-sector partners in management and operations. Such measures, he noted, are essential to improving efficiency, ensuring long-term sustainability, and attracting new investment into the industry.

Participants in the meeting further reviewed the project’s financial performance and discussed future plans aimed at supporting Egypt’s vision of building a modern, globally competitive textile and garment industry.

The national initiative is expected to contribute significantly to economic development by increasing exports, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the country’s position as a regional manufacturing hub for textiles and apparel.
