India Expands Textile Manufacturing Beyond Traditional Hubs to Drive Industry Growth
India is accelerating efforts to expand textile manufacturing beyond established industry centers such as Tiruppur and Surat, as the Ministry of Textiles intensifies engagement with states that have historically had a limited presence in the sector.
The initiative is aimed at diversifying the country’s textile production base, creating new employment opportunities, and strengthening regional manufacturing ecosystems. Government officials have been working closely with state administrations and industry stakeholders to facilitate the establishment of new textile and apparel manufacturing facilities across emerging regions.
According to ministry officials, continuous engagement with states and investors is essential to ensure the smooth implementation of proposed projects and to address operational challenges at an early stage. The outreach reflects the government’s broader strategy to encourage balanced industrial development and attract investments beyond traditional textile clusters.
The move aligns with national initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and PM MITRA Parks, which seek to boost investments, enhance competitiveness, and increase India’s global share in textile and apparel exports.
Industry experts believe that expanding manufacturing footprints into new states could help reduce regional concentration, improve supply chain resilience, and unlock fresh opportunities in technical textiles, man-made fibres, apparel manufacturing, and value-added textile products.
As India targets higher textile exports and aims to strengthen its position as a global sourcing destination, the development of new manufacturing hubs is expected to play a crucial role in supporting sustainable industry growth and attracting domestic and international investments.
With northern, eastern, and central states increasingly positioning themselves as investment destinations, the textile sector is poised for a broader geographic transformation in the coming years.
