CWDB & Essma Felts Join Hands to Promote Wool-Based Innovation
In a significant development for the Indian wool and technical textile sector, the Central Wool Development Board (CWDB) and Essma Felts Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote innovation, research and market development of wool-based products in India.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Smt. Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary, and Mr. G.S. Bhati, Executive Director, CWDB.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the utilization of indigenous coarse sheep wool by encouraging research & development, pilot production, product innovation and commercialization across multiple industrial applications. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for value addition in India’s wool sector while supporting sustainable and eco-friendly product development.

Under the agreement, CWDB and Essma Felts Limited will work together on the development of innovative wool-based products catering to diverse industries. The partnership will focus on technology advancement, product diversification, market development activities and preparation of joint product catalogues to enhance industry outreach.

The initiative is also expected to support wool growers and related stakeholders by improving the commercial viability of indigenous wool varieties, particularly coarse wool which remains largely underutilized despite its abundant availability in the country.

Industry observers believe that the collaboration could play an important role in expanding the application of wool in technical textiles, industrial felts, filtration materials, insulation solutions and several other emerging segments. The partnership further reflects the growing emphasis on sustainable raw materials and circular textile solutions within the Indian textile industry.

With increasing focus on innovation-led growth in the textile sector, the MoU between CWDB and Essma Felts Limited is expected to contribute towards strengthening India’s wool ecosystem and promoting wider industrial adoption of wool-based materials in the years ahead.
